Software deployment with Microsoft Systems Center Configuration Manager 2007 (III)
Configuration Manager 2007 uses advertisements to distribute programs to clients.Once a package has been created, along with programs to tell client computers what to do with the package, you need to advertise the program that you want the clients to run. Advertising the program makes a program available to a specified collection of clients.
To create an advertisement:
-
In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System Center Configuration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Software Distribution.
-
Right-click Advertisements, point to New, and then click Advertisement.
-
Click Next on the Welcome screen.
-
Click Browse to browse for the package that is going to be advertised, then select the Program (in our deployment Per-system unattended) and finally click Browse to select the collection where the package is going to be advertised. Click Next.
-
Select a schedule for the advertisement, create mandatory assignments if you want to filter the computers on the collection and click Next.
-
Select where you want to run the files. We have selected Download content from distribution point and run locally and we have activated the fall back to unprotected distribution points check box to ensure that software is installed also if it is not available on the corresponding distribution point.
-
Next screens are merely informative but you can specify other information for the new advertisement.
-
Click Finish to create the advertisement.
Once advertised, the package will be deployed to those computers within the corresponding collection. You can obtain advertisement reports to know what computers have been advertised and check if any errors exist.
