This is my challenge: Windows Phone 7

This is my challenge; being 100% Microsoft and Windows Phone 7 has been my first adoption. Actually in Spain carriers are offering just 4 models with Microsoft’s operative system so I decided to purchase a LG Optimus 7 E900 (Windows Phone v. 7.0.7390.0). If you feel curious and want to read a good in-deep review, check the one from Cell Phone F.A.Q, here. They conclude:

“People who buy the first WP7 phones like the LG Optimus 7 are ones that want a high-end phone and a new OS experience with excellent social networking and Office integration. And the Optimus 7 delivers.”

Good, it looks like I’ve chosen the right phone to start with Windows Phone 7.

Being used BlackBerry as my cell phone for almost 6 years, a nice list of models have passed through my hands. Starting with and old Electron 8700v, 8800 (the first one with the Pearl), Bold 9300, Curve 8330, a tactile Storm 9500 finishing with the Bold 8900; and I should recognize that I have molded myself to them.

Anyway, after playing a little bit I’ve been surprised with the nice integration that Windows Phone 7 presents with Google Mail, Hotmail, Facebook, SkyDrive, etc. Specially, the fact that your pictures can be uploaded and stored directly in your SkyDrive space instead of occupying storage in your phone, in the same way you can recall you SkyDrive stored pictures directly from your phone which represents a great value when working from multiple platforms.

Another exciting feature I’ve discovered is the Windows Live Find My Phone to Locate, Ring, Lock or Erase your phone; and it is built-in Windows Phone 7, so you don’t need to install any 3rd-Party application. Microsoft Zune which is awesome compared to BlackBerry Desktop software; it offers you much more than phone synchronization on a multiplatform environment.

Customization is easy and being able to pin whatever you want on the main screen is great; it lets you access quickly to more used functions. Search is also a major improvement compared to BlackBerry; on Windows Phone 7 searching is something easy and beautiful (thanks to Bing).

Windows Phone 7 is still a recent platform; the applications offer is quite limited but fortunately, the number of available applications is growing fast; about 750 new applications are being released every week.

Some applications I recommend you to download and install from Marketplace:

  • Facebook (by Microsoft Corp.)

  • Windows Phone Insider (by Microsoft Corp.)

  • Translator (by Microsoft Corp.)

  • Twitter (by Twitter, Inc.)

  • Link Me In (by Starznet, Ltd.)

  • Amazon Kindle (by Amazon Services LLC)

  • Adobe Reader (by Adobe Systems, Inc.)

As the days go by I’m missing a couple of BlackBerry features; the mail alerting LED, the auto on/off feature, but at the moment I’m having a good experience and good feelings with Windows Phone 7…

This experience is part of This is my challenge series and if you want to know more, you can review the previous post This is my challenge: 100% Microsoft.
